Applications open for first companies to set seafood targets

08/09/2025

The Science Based Targets Network (SBTN) is launching a validation pilot for companies to set  the first ocean science-based targets for seafood, running from October 2025 to mid-year 2026.

Up to four first-mover companies will pilot the setting and validation of seafood targets using SBTN’s recently released guidance for the seafood sector.

Participating companies will work towards the first validated seafood targets while helping to refine the methods and validation process so they are credible, practical and ready to scale.

Who can participate?

Companies are encouraged to apply by September 17 if they:

  • Have seafood in their supply chain, with traceability to production (fishery or farm)
  • Commit to completing Step 1: Assess & Step 2: Prioritize during the pilot (narrowing the scope to relevant business units is encouraged)
  • Commit to set an ocean target within six months (no public disclosure required, although recommended)

Preference will be given to companies with Step 1: Assess work underway and capacity to staff the pilot.

What are the benefits for participating companies?

Companies that participate in the pilot will have access to:

  • Free validation of Steps 1 & 2
  • Free validation of ocean targets (Step 3)
  • Dedicated office hours and technical support with SBTN experts
  • Recognition as a first-mover and early adopter through SBTN communications and events (with additional opportunities for companies publicly disclosing)

How can companies get involved?

  • Companies interested in participating can apply via this form by September 17. Selected companies will begin the pilot in October 2025.
