SBTN’s regional initiative in Finland is led by UNGC Network Finland, which developed a training program for Finnish companies to explore the SBTN framework for setting science-based targets for nature. 

The programme was initially launched in May 2023, and the first cohort ran from August 2023 until March 2024. 15 Finnish companies participated, including 13 large companies and 2 SMEs from varying sectors.

The second cohort of the programme, run in partnership with Ramboll Finland, launched in January 2026 and concluded with a closing seminar in June 2026. Fifteen Finnish companies participated: Assemblin Caverion Group, Castellum Finland, Crimppi, Gasgrid Finland, Hankkija, Kempower, Kesko, KONE, Lassila & Tikanoja, L-Fashion Group, Metso, NRC Group Finland, Stockmann, Terrafame, and VTT. Companies engaged with the full SBTN process across a series of workshops, completing a materiality assessment of their nature-related impacts and dependencies before moving into target-setting steps. The programme required approximately 60 hours of engagement per company over the course of the cohort.

• UN Global Compact Network Finland (2024): Accelerating Ambitious Nature Action. This report summarises participants’ findings and experiences from the first cohort (2023–2024), including case studies from six Finnish companies.
