July 2024 newsletter
Dear Colleague,
We are excited to announce our main content release of 2024 is now available.
You can explore all of our latest corporate guidance online via our new target-setting guide which is also available offline through our just-published corporate manual. These now serve as the main entry point into our technical methods.
This suite of updated technical guidance and enabling materials marks an important milestone in our journey, made possible by the fruitful learning experience of our pioneer target-setting companies and the broader Network’s ongoing support from our NGO partners, companies and consultancies. Looking ahead, we look forward to sharing full outcomes and insights in September and highlighting everyone’s contributions.
The key benefits of target-setting highlighted by our pilot participants reinforce that SBTN is closing a critical gap in corporate sustainability, including:
- Increasing ambition and driving science-based action on nature
- Providing credibility and a common language to advance engagement with stakeholders
- Acting as a trusted compass for companies to get to the right solutions
By definition, science-based targets for nature are ambitious; focusing on place-based action where nature needs it most. As we turn our sights to scaling adoption and impact, we continue our focus on balancing ambition and feasibility. We are shaping the next generation of nature targets for 2025 – with further freshwater and land coverage, additional biodiversity integration, implementation and tracking guidance, alongside new ocean and cities targets – and we will continue to respond and adapt to improve feasibility and practicality while maintaining scientific rigor.
But we can’t do it alone. Many challenges are system-wide and require collaboration across many actors, who play an important role in closing gaps for instance around upstream traceability and local models.
I encourage you to explore our new target-setting guide and join us in supporting credible corporate action towards a nature positive future. Together we can make a lasting impact.
Best wishes,
Erin Billman
