Science-based targets for Freshwater: Public Consultation for Version 2

The Science Based Targets Network (SBTN) Freshwater Hub has published its draft Version 2 of technical guidance for Freshwater targets on August 28, with a public consultation running until October 9. Following the consultation, the full guidance, which expands the scope of freshwater targets, is expected to launch in 2026.

On September 11, 2025, the Freshwater Hub hosted a webinar to explore how Version 2 will:

• Incorporate the latest science
• Expand the scope of targets to include groundwater use and toxic chemical pollution
• Introduce a new Basin Threshold Tool that will help companies with model selection

This webinar will help equip you to provide feedback on the draft guidance during the public consultation period.
