Latin America

Regional Initiative

SBTN’s regional initiative in Latin America is led by UN Global Compact Mexico, which serves as the regional incubator for SBTi and SBTN. The initiative includes 32 partner organisations across 12 countries – Brazil, Mexico, Ecuador, Chile, Guatemala, Bolivia, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, and the Dominican Republic – and its core priorities are to train local organisations and consultancies in the SBTN methodology and to provide resources and training opportunities for Latin American companies in Spanish.

Initiative Background (2023-2025)

The regional initiative was established in 2023 with 70 participants from 36 organisations, with an initial focus on building awareness and strengthening the capacity of regional NGOs and partner organisations. Five sessions were held during this founding phase, covering regional engagement strategies for nature.

In 2024, the initiative expanded its reach through two complementary activities: a second edition of the Ciclo de Charlas Empresariales webinar series and a regional survey assessing the state of corporate knowledge on nature across Latin America and the Caribbean. The 2024 webinar series was organized in collaboration with the Business for Nature LATAM Partners Group, a coalition of 13 organizations from eight countries – Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Guatemala, Ecuador, Mexico, and Peru – and drew participation from more than 750 companies across 16 countries. The series comprised four webinars structured around the steps of the ACT-D framework (Assess, Commit, Transform, Disclose), providing comprehensive guidance to participants on integrating nature into their corporate strategies. Topics ranged from identifying nature-related dependencies, impacts, risks, and opportunities to setting science-based targets, taking transformative action, and reporting on progress.

In 2025, the initiative moved into hands-on technical capacity building, delivering virtual workshops on Steps 1 and 2 of the SBTN framework, reaching 62 attendees.
