SBTN Funding

How the Science Based Targets Network is funded—and how you can help.

Why Support SBTN

Join us in driving the next wave of corporate leadership for nature. Your support – whether you represent a foundation, government, donor-advised fund, family office, or a company – helps accelerate measurable corporate action to halt and reverse nature loss.

Nature underpins our economy, livelihoods, and climate stability — providing food, clean water, biodiversity, and more than $150 trillion in annual value to the global economy. Yet nature is declining at unprecedented rates. Scientific consensus is clear: there is no net-zero future without addressing nature loss.

Business plays a central role in addressing this challenge. Global supply chains depend directly on healthy ecosystems — from agricultural landscapes and freshwater systems to marine environments. But until recently, companies lacked a clear, science-based framework to translate global biodiversity goals into measurable corporate action.

The Science Based Targets Network (SBTN) fills that gap. SBTN provides a globally recognized framework that enables companies to set science-based targets for nature. This approach helps them identify their most significant impacts and take measurable action to reduce environmental pressures and support the recovery of ecosystems across land, freshwater, and ocean.

Proof of concept and growing momentum

  • Science-based methodologies are now available across freshwater, land, and ocean, creating the first integrated framework for corporate action on nature.
  • Leading global companies — including Kering, GSK, and Holcim — have already adopted science-based targets using the SBTN framework.
  • More than 150 companies are preparing to set science-based targets for nature, representing over $5 trillion in market capitalization.
  • Through the Step Up for Nature initiative, companies across multiple sectors and countries are publicly signaling their next milestone toward science-based targets, helping build transparency and peer momentum.

SBTN is now entering the next phase: scaling adoption globally so that science-based targets for nature become standard business practice.
