Breaking down barriers to corporate nature action
Dear Colleague,
When we speak with corporate leaders about nature action, a common concern comes up: “Our impacts are everywhere – it’s too big to tackle.”
But companies don’t need to solve everything at once. With the right guidance, they can start taking credible action where it matters most – and build from there.
At SBTN, we know credible nature action requires both scientific rigor and practical guidance. That’s why we’ve built feasibility into the foundation of our approach – and now, we’re making it even easier for companies to get started, stay focused, and scale their action over time.
Our feasibility enhancements give companies more flexibility in how they engage with SBTN methods. For example, companies can now:
- Validate their materiality assessment and prioritization work
- Begin with specific business units instead of the whole enterprise
- Start with targets in a specific issue area (Freshwater, Land, or Ocean)
These changes reflect what we have heard from our pilot companies: the journey to credible nature action starts with what’s most material, manageable and meaningful.
And at the end of the day, nature is complex. Actions to protect it must always be rooted in science – and for companies, this is no small task. With SBTN guidance paving a credible and feasible path forward, companies can act with confidence.

Companies don’t need to wait to start taking credible action
SBTN’s Land V1 targets are active and available for adoption today, offering companies a clear and science-based approach to begin addressing their land impacts.
With the Accountability Accelerator, we’ve just published new resources to support companies validating Land V1 targets. These include:
- A new Land Validation Requirements and Recommendations
- A new Land Target Validation Submission Form
- An updated Land Validation Data Template
These resources help companies smoothly execute the validation process, saving time and reducing complexity. Find the new Land resources alongside the other existing validation resources on the Accountability Accelerator validation page.

Target validation offers tangible value to companies
Validation is an essential part of the target-setting process – it provides an independent stamp of approval to demonstrate credible action, and ensure that companies’ target-setting work is in alignment with SBTN methodologies.
